How Much Sleep Do Dogs Need? Why Rest Is Essential for Behaviour
Matthew Rodwell

One thing we learned quickly with our dogs, especially puppies, is this:

👉 When they're overtired… everything goes wrong.

They get bitey, hyper, destructive, what people often call "naughty". But the truth is, most of the time, they just need sleep.

Dogs need more sleep than you think

  • Puppies: up to 18–20 hours a day
  • Adult dogs: around 12–16 hours

Without proper rest, dogs can become:

  • Overstimulated
  • Anxious
  • Difficult to settle

Why having a safe space matters

Just like babies need a cot, dogs need a space where they can switch off and relax.

That's exactly why structured spaces like pens or crates are used, to help dogs rest properly.

Our approach

After Jackson's accident, we knew dogs still needed that safe space… just without the risks.

That's why we created PetPen, a calm, comfortable & beautiful environment where dogs can rest safely and naturally.

From our home to yours

"As soon as our puppy had a proper space to rest, everything changed."

"I recently got the Pet Pen, and it's been a fantastic addition for my dog."
